James Wilkinson & Son Howdah Pistol

James Wilkinson & Son Howdah Pistol. A Mint Double Barrel Howdah percussion cap pistol, set in a fine case by “James Wilkinson & Son” complete with full compliment of accessories and original trade label to inside the lid, the pistol is unsigned and could well have possibly been a replacement for the original Wilkinson Howdah Pistol, the item is of very good quality and again shows must of it’s original case colours , bluing and twist brown finishes overall.

The case signed on the outside on brass escutcheon and handle ” Jas Ross Esquire,” Bengal Cavalry, ” James Adolphus Ross” was in the Honourable East India Company and attached to the 5th Bengal Cavalry, he was the third son of Field Marshal Sir Hew Dalrymple Ross and was born 2nd Dec 1826 at Brampton in Northumberland. He boarded a ship “Oriental” and departed Southampton 20th August 1845 bound for India, He fought in the Punjab Campaign (1848-49) and was awarded clasps to the Punjab Campaign medal for the battles at Chillianwallah on 14th January 1849 and Goojerat on 22 nd February 1849. .James Ross retired as Captain from the Honourable East India Company, he died 27th January 1886 and is buried in Colemore Churchyard.
